Captain Dennis "Mike" Richter

Captain Dennis Richter is the Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies and Recruiting Officer, Detachment 205, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. In this capacity, he is responsible for training over 100 cadets and developing future Air Force officers.

Captain Richter was commissioned as a second lieutenant after completing Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 2015. He was assigned to the 28^th Operational Weather Squadron, at Shaw AFB, SC as a Senior Duty Officer where he was responsible for leading a 15-member team conducting 24/7 weather operations in support of 80,000 Coalition Forces across the USCENTCOM area of responsibility. Captain Richter also served as the Meteorological and Oceanographic Effects Officer at USSTRATCOM, Offutt AFB, NE where he briefed nuclear detonation and consequence of execution information to General and Flag Officers during various exercises on-board the Airborne Command Post.

Prior to his current position, Captain Richter served as Flight Commander at the 26^th Operational Weather Squadron where he led 50 Airmen to execute 24/7 weather operations for Air Force, Space Force, and joint operations at 96 locations across 54 nations and 6 combatant commands. He also oversaw duty position qualification, skill-level upgrades and deployment training and readiness of assigned members to execute aligned national defense strategy missions. During his time as Flight Commander, Captain Richter deployed to Al Udeid, Qatar where he briefed the USCENTCOM Commander weather impacts and led weather operations for Presidential-directed exercises.
