Captain Kathryn M. Rew-Banning
Captain Kathryn Rew-Banning is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies, Detachment 205, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Southern Illinois University. In this capacity, she is responsible for training cadets as well as developing future Air Force and Space Force officers. Prior to this assignment, she served as the Executive Officer to the Director of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, supporting over 104 Total Force Mobility Air Forces units.
Captain Rew-Banning was commissioned in May of 2014 as a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, after having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both International Studies and Spanish. Upon completion of intelligence technical school in August of 2015, she received an assignment to Andersen AFB, Guam. As a member of the 36th Contingency Response Group, she served in a variety of leadership positions to include Chief of Group Intelligence, Intelligence and Communications Flight Commander, and Assistant Director of Operations. During this time period, she deployed as Mission Commander in support of numerous joint and combined engagements throughout in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, including 3 mobility support missions for the President of the United States.
As an intelligence analyst, Captain Rew-Banning routinely briefed the Air Mobility Command Commander and senior staff members regarding threats to the Rapid Global Mobility mission-set. While deployed to Joint Task Force-Bravo at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, she leveraged her certification as a U.S. Army Pathfinder and her foreign language training to assist in delivering humanitarian aid to thousands of refugees, in addition to providing intelligence support for Security Cooperation Operations throughout Central America.
