Lieutenant Colonel Anthony J. Anderson
Lieutenant Colonel Anthony J. Anderson is the Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies, Detachment 205, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading detachment personnel in the development of officers for commissioning in the United States Air Force. Prior to assuming his current duties, Lt Col Anderson served as a Space Operations Branch Chief in the Space and Missile Defense Division at United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Offutt Air Force Base (AFB), Nebraska.
Lt Col Anderson was born and raised in Oklahoma. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Science, he entered active duty in 1996. His first assignment was at F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he served as a Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Combat Crew Commander, Deputy Flight Commander, and crew instructor. He also served as an Officer Codes Controller Instructor.
In 2001, Lt Col Anderson reported to the 1st Space Control Squadron, Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Colorado Springs, Colorado. While assigned there, he served as a Space Control Center Flight Commander Evaluator, Space Defense Director Evaluator, and Space Control Officer. In 2005, Lt Col Anderson was assigned to 392nd Training Squadron, Detachment 1, Schriever AFB, Colorado. While at Det 1, he served a Space Surveillance Flight Commander, Instructor Supervisor, and earned his Master Instructor Certification.
In 2009, Lt Col Anderson reported to USSTRATCOM, where he served as a Space Strategic Planner and developed space strategies. He has also served as the lead planner for USSTRATCOM’s Human Space Flight Support. In 2011, Lt Col Anderson was hand-picked to be an Executive Officer for the 2-Star General of Plans and Policy Directorate. Where he prioritized, coordinated, prepared, and reviewed all matters requiring the Director’s attention and oversaw the daily operations of the staff.
